BACKGROUNDER

We gratefully acknowledge numismatist Walt Jellum who provided some images used in this section and the background information below.

There are three types of "varieties" shown above:

 Type
I: 10 digit serial at upper left and lower right on note face

Type II: 10 digit serial at upper left and 8 digit serial at lower right on note face with he last 4 digits indicating the date.

Type
Iii: Same as Type II except note has a hologram foil strip at right.

Although not related to the variety definitions above the following item combines a banknote and first day issue of a commemorative stamp, called a Philatelic Numismatic Combination (PNC). It honors one of my favourite Norway personalities, Kirsten Flagstad, who has been called the "world’s most dramatic soprano"..
