BACKGROUNDER
Yolette Leconte Magloire, wife of President Paul E. Magloire, encouraged the State to provide significant funding for her charity which she established in 1950.

With a budget of about $100,000 for the years 1952-1953 she was able to carry out significant important activities distributing clothing and money, creation of a nursery, schools, canteens, a restaurant and the establishment of four sewing facilities in provincial towns for the advan
cement poor women. She was honored on a two Haiti postage stamps, SC.402 10 Cents, Orange and SC.403 10 cents Blue issued on 1.1. 1954.

Mrs. MaHtiMmeYoletteMagloire.JPGgloire and her husband went into exile in December 1956 after President Magloire resigned his Presidency.  They lived in New York City where Mrs. Magloire continued to do charitable and church work until her death. She died in New York City on June 13, 2006.

She is survived by her son, Raymond and daughters, Elsie Sadat, Myrtha Goodlad, Paule Ketoure, Yola Lanzinger, and six grandchildren.
