Backgrounder
Click to EnlargeThe Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period was characterized by a series of 15 short lived dynasties. This was probably the most difficult period in dynastic Chinese history with flooding, famine, corruption and warfare.

One major accomplishment was the widespread development of printing. The first complete set of Confucian writings was done in this period in a massive 130 volume set of printed books.

The above drawing of a banknote has been reported to have been used during this period and was called Chiao Tzu.

We know of no examples of actual banknotes to have survived.
